Delve into the unique history of a city built under fascism in Italy. We'll learn about its mining past and its link to the Second World War on this guided walking tour of Carbonia.

Tour Details

At your selected time, we'll meet at Piazza Roma to start this guided walking tour of Carbonia. During the walking tour, we'll admire the main monuments of this Sardinian town and learn about its history.

Carbonia was founded by Benito Mussolini in 1938 as a Fascist settlement intended to control nearby mines, which were the largest energy supply centre in Italy during their peak.

We'll explore Carbonia, observing the exteriors of key monuments, including the Torre Littoria, the cinema-theatre, and the Church of San Ponciano, notable for its 46-metre-tall bell tower.

The tour continues with visits to the Post Office and the Town Hall. We'll also walk through the Villa Sulcis Park to see the ruins of a former mine director's house. Throughout the tour, we will learn interesting facts about the locations we visit.

After an hour and a half of sightseeing, we will conclude our guided tour of Carbonia in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.
