Delve into the unique history of a city built under fascism in Italy. We'll learn about its mining past and its link to the Second World War on this guided walking tour of Carbonia.

Guided Walking Tour of Carbonia

At your selected time, we'll meet at Piazza Roma to start this guided walking tour of Carbonia. During the tour, we'll admire the main monuments of this Sardinian town and learn about its history.

Carbonia was founded by Benito Mussolini in 1938 as a Fascist settlement to control the nearby mines, which were the largest energy supply centre in Italy during their peak.

We'll walk around Carbonia, admiring the exteriors of monuments including the Torre Littoria, the cinema-theatre and the Church of San Ponciano, notable for its 46-metre tall bell tower.

Next, we'll discover the Post Office and the Town Hall. Afterwards, a walk through the Villa Sulcis Park will lead us to the ruins of a former mine director's house. Throughout the tour, we'll share interesting facts about the locations visited.

After two hours of sightseeing, we'll conclude our guided tour of Carbonia in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.
