Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet in Place du Prado to begin our guided tour of Carcassonne.
We'll start by stepping through the ancient gates of Porte Narbonnaise, the entrance to Carcassonne's fortified city, learning about the evolution of these defensive walls, now one of the best-preserved citadels in Europe.
We'll then stop at the foot of Carcassonne Castle, which can be visited independently after the tour. Next to this bastion, we'll discuss stories related to feudalism, the Cathars, and the Albigensian crusade.
Next, we'll stroll through the medieval streets of Carcassonne, continuing to learn about the city's history and architectural features.
Lastly, we'll visit the Saint-Nazaire Basilica, a significant Gothic architectural work, where we will appreciate the luminosity from its colorful stained glass windows.
The tour will conclude as we return to the meeting point after 1.5 hours of medieval history.
