Explore the old town in Southern France with this Carcassonne Guided Tour. Discover the Cathar history of one of the most significant historic towns in the Occitania region.

Description

At the designated time, we will meet in Place du Prado to start our guided tour of Carcassonne.

We will first enter through the ancient gates of Porte Narbonnaise, the main entrance to the fortified city. Learn about the evolution of these defensive walls, which is now one of the best-preserved citadels in Europe.

Next, we will stop at the foot of the Carcassonne Castle, which you can visit at the end of the tour. Adjacent to this notable fortress, we will discuss stories related to feudalism, the Cathars, and the Albigensian crusade.

Then, we will wander through the medieval streets of Carcassonne. While exploring, we will continue learning about the city’s history and admiring its architectural features.

Finally, we will visit the Saint-Nazaire Basilica, a notable example of Gothic architecture, where we can appreciate the light filtering through its colorful stained glass windows.

We will return to the meeting point after 1.5 hours of exploring medieval history.
