On this trip from Varadero, you'll visit the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park, known for being the most important wetland of the insular Caribbean.

Description

At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Varadero to begin this trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park. You will explore one of the most amazing ecosystems in Latin America.

After approximately 2 hours, we will reach the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean. Here, we will embark on a 2.5-kilometre hiking route to discover the rich nature of this area, which has been declared a Nature Reserve by UNESCO.

During the trip, we will observe the native mangroves, essential for coastline protection, and home to diverse wildlife, including 258 species of birds, 43 types of reptiles, and 15 mammals. We will provide insights about these fascinating creatures.

Next, we will take a break at La Cueva de los Peces Cenote on the Zapata Peninsula for a refreshing dip, followed by a typical Cuban lunch.

After lunch, we will visit Bernabé Garden to observe native and migratory birds. With some luck, we may spot Zapata wrens, St. Thomas hens, crested grebes, hummingbirds, long-tailed hawks, Cuban parakeets, marsh goats, herons, flamingos, and cranes.

Our final stop will be at a crocodile farm to view these reptiles in their habitats. We will conclude the tour after 11 hours, returning to the starting point.
