Carrara Marble Quarries Jeep Tour

Meet at your chosen time at the Carrara train station to begin the tour. We will travel by jeep to the Carrara Marble Quarries, the most renowned marble quarry globally.

The jeep will take us to the highest quarries, located at 3,280 feet (1,000 metres) above sea level. At this elevation, we will discuss the history of Carrara marble quarrying since the Roman Empire and the extraction techniques used historically and currently.

Learn about Michelangelo Buonarroti, who preferred Carrara marble for his sculptures. The tour includes a visit to the quarry where Michelangelo selected the marble blocks for sculptures like the masterpiece David.

After exploring the quarries, we will return to the city, stopping at a lardo factory to sample Lardo di Colonatta, a famous type of Italian sausage.

We will return you to the Carrara train station, concluding the tour approximately 3 hours after it begins.
