Carrara Marble Quarries Jeep Tour

Meet at your chosen time at the Carrara train station. We'll drive in a jeep to the Carrara Marble Quarries, the most famous marble quarry in the world.

The jeep allows access to the highest quarries, which rise at 3,280 feet (1,000 metres) above sea level. At this altitude, we'll cover the history of Carrara marble extraction since the Roman Empire and the techniques used in the past and present.

We will discuss Michelangelo Buonarroti's preference for Carrara marble in his sculptures. The tour includes a visit to the quarry where Michelangelo chose the marble blocks for works like the masterpiece David.

After visiting the quarries, we will return to the city, making a stop at a lardo factory to sample Lardo di Colonatta, a well-known type of Italian sausage.

We will drop you off back at the train station in Carrara, completing the tour approximately 3 hours after it begins.
