On this guided tour of the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse, we will enjoy the views from this monument and learn about its history as we climb to the top, almost 80 metres (260 feet) above sea level.
Description
At the designated time, we will meet at the entrance to the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse. Climbing to the highest point provides a view of the Murcian coast.
Constructed in the mid-19th century, the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse replaced the old watch tower serving the Murcian city, guiding boats safely along the Costa Calida.
This lighthouse is one of the tallest in Spain. We will learn about its history and the projects that funded its construction, along with the significance of the Cabo de Palos Marine Reserve.
After a brief historical overview, we will ascend over 300 stairs to the balcony at approximately 80 metres (260 feet). This vantage point allows views of the Mediterranean, Cabo de Palos, and La Manga del Mar Menor. Time for photos!
Additionally, we will discuss how the lighthouse operates and notable facts, including ships that have sunk nearby.
After 45 minutes, the guided tour will conclude at the initial meeting point.
