Explore the rich Roman heritage of Carthago Nova by securing a ticket to the Roman Theatre Museum, where you will uncover the fascinating history behind this significant archaeological site.

Roman Theatre Museum Admission

By obtaining this ticket, you will immerse yourself in Carthago Nova's ancient history as you view the remarkable archaeological artifacts from the Roman Theatre of Cartagena.

The museum features several historic edifices integrated into its design, including the Riquelme Palace and the Santa Maria Church, which date back to medieval times. Your journey begins at the historic Pascual Riquelme Palace, where you will discover the intriguing story of how the theatre was uncovered and excavated through a subterranean passage. This leads to a gallery showcasing significant artifacts unearthed during the digs, including jewelry, sculptures, vessels, and notable masterpieces such as the three altar pieces dedicated to the Capitoline Triad.

Next, you will navigate through the tunnel beneath the medieval church, culminating your visit at the awe-inspiring Roman Theatre of Cartagena, recognized as one of the largest in Spain. Here, you can observe the remnants of the stage front, the designated area for patricians and dignitaries known as the orchestra, as well as the cavea, arranged by social class for the citizens of Carthago Nova.

This theatre could accommodate 7,000 spectators and served the community until the 2nd century. The excavations carried out in the 1990s, along with the design by architect Rafael Moneo, have made this insightful exploration of Cartagena's illustrious past possible.
