We will pick you up at around 9 am from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias and depart for San Basilio de Palenque. After an hour's journey, we will arrive at this village with over 300 years of history.

San Basilio de Palenque is recognized as the first free African town in the Americas and is a cultural heritage site where the creole language and African culture are preserved. We will explore the streets and learn about the town's origins.

During the tour, we will see the colourful houses and explore the unique traditions in music, dance, and medicine. A highlight of the visit is seeing the “Palenqueras”, women dressed in vibrant outfits selling tropical fruits, serving as icons of the town.

This tour also includes a delicious typical lunch featuring local delicacies. After the tour, we will return to Cartagena, arriving at around 3 pm.

Hotel pick up

The tour includes pick up from hotels in the Bocagrande area and the historical centre of Cartagena. If you are not staying in these areas, you will need to go to the meeting point at the entrance to the Éxito San Diego supermarket.
