After picking you up at around 9 am from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias, we'll set off for San Basilio de Palenque. After an hour's journey, we'll arrive at this village with more than 300 years of history.

San Basilio de Palenque is recognized as the first free African town in the Americas and is a cultural heritage site where creole language and African culture are preserved. We'll explore its streets and learn about the town's origins.

During the tour, we'll observe the colourful houses and the unique traditions stemming from the city's history in music, dance, and medicine. Notable are the “Palenqueras,” the colourful women who sell tropical fruits in the streets, serving as icons of San Basilio de Palenque.

The tour includes a delicious typical lunch featuring local delicacies. After the tour, we'll head back to Cartagena, arriving at around 3 pm.

This tour includes pick up from hotels in the Bocagrande area and the historical centre of Cartagena. If you aren't staying in these areas, you will need to make your own way to the meeting point at the entrance to the Éxito San Diego supermarket.
