San Basilio de Palenque Day Trip

After picking you up at around 9 am from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias, we will set off for San Basilio de Palenque. After an hour's journey, we will arrive at this village with more than 300 years of history.

San Basilio de Palenque is known as the first free African town in the Americas and is a cultural heritage site where the creole language and African culture are preserved. We will explore its streets and learn about the town's origins.

During the tour, we will see the colourful houses and unique traditions related to music, dance, and medicine. A highlight is the sight of the “Palenqueras”, the colourfully dressed women selling tropical fruits in the streets, who are icons of the town.

The tour includes a typical lunch featuring local delicacies. After the tour, we will return to Cartagena, arriving around 3 pm.
