After picking you up at around 9 am from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias, we'll set off for San Basilio de Palenque. After an hour's journey, we'll arrive at this village with more than 300 years of history.

San Basilio de Palenque was the first free African town in the Americas and is considered a cultural heritage site where the creole language and African culture are preserved. We'll explore its streets and learn about the town's origins.

During the tour we'll see the colourful houses and unique traditions rooted in music, dance, and medicine. A highlight is the “Palenqueras,” colourfully dressed women selling tropical fruits in the streets, who are icons of San Basilio de Palenque.

The tour includes a delicious typical lunch made from local delicacies. After the tour, we'll head back to Cartagena, arriving at around 3 pm.

This tour includes pick up from hotels in the Bocagrande area and the historical centre of Cartagena. If you aren't staying in these areas, you'll need to go to the meeting point at the entrance to the Éxito San Diego supermarket.
