On this guided tour of the castle San Felipe de Barajas, we'll discover why this UNESCO World Heritage Site is significant.

Tour Details

We will meet at the Camellón de los Mártires at the indicated time and proceed to the San Felipe de Barajas castle. This guided tour will explore the Cartagena fort on San Lázaro hill.

The castle was built during the XVI and XVII centuries by the Spanish military and African slaves for protection against the French pirate Pointis and English officer Edward Vernon. Information about Blas de Lezo will also be provided.

We'll walk along the walls of the fortress and see the cannons from the original 63 that protected Cartagena de Indias. The tour includes views of the galleries, guardhouses, reservoirs, and tunnels that accommodated 300 people for protection against assaults.

Additionally, we'll discuss some of the secrets of its construction, including the use of human and animal blood in certain areas.

Following the castle visit, we’ll take a minibus to Cerro de la Popa, the highest point in Cartagena, where we will visit the convent. Myths and legends will be shared, and the panoramic viewpoint will offer a view of the Caribbean Sea, Tierra Bomba island, and the bays of Cartagena.

The tour lasts approximately 3 hours.
