Calanques National Park Hike
At the scheduled time, we'll meet on Avenue des Calanques, in Cassis, to begin a nature walk through the eastern part of Calanques National Park.
The hike features paradisiacal coves and limestone mountains, shaped over 120 million years. A calanque is an old valley flooded by the sea due to rising water levels 12,000 years ago, creating a unique landscape.
During the tour, we will walk along the coastline to visit the calanques, starting with Port-Miou, a mile-long (1.5 kilometre) calanque resembling a fjord. Here, we will examine the marina, discuss an old quarry, and learn about the underground river in the area.
Continuing along the coastline, we will reach Port-Pin and ascend to the Calanque d'En-Vau viewpoint, located almost 400 feet (120 metres) high, offering stunning views of the park.
The tour includes several stops and a break for a swim, before concluding back at the starting point.
