On this bicycle tour of the cape of Santa Maria di Leuca, we will explore the history and landscape of the southernmost point of the Salento peninsula.
Tour Details
We will meet at Torre di Salignano to begin our adventure. The area was historically known as Finibus Terrae (Land's End).
Our 15-kilometre (9.3-mile) cycle will start by admiring the Defence Tower, built to protect against Saracen incursions. Then, we will journey inland through charming villages, farms, and tranquil trails.
Our next stop will be Patù, where we will see the well-known Centopietre (Hundred Stones) and learn about the history of this interesting megalithic structure.
Next, we will visit the medieval castle Giuliano, one of the few forts in Salento retaining its original structure. We will then proceed to Barbarano, home to the Santuario di Leuca Piccola, a historical sanctuary for pilgrims.
The tour concludes at the Antica Locanda Retró with a glass of wine and a selection of local cheeses.
