At the appointed time, we'll meet in thePiazza Università, where we'll start this free tour of Catania, a city devastated by volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and war. Are you ready to discover the most fascinating chapters of its history?

We'll start the guided tour talking about the origins of this Sicilian town while admiring the Roman amphitheatre, a 2nd-century construction built with basaltic stone from the Etna volcano. During this time, we'll learn how the Greek town of Katane was founded and follow the timeline to the fall of the Roman Empire.

Additionally, we'll explore the life of the composer Vincenzo Bellini, known as The Swan of Catania, and discuss the legend of Saint Agatha, the city's patron saint.

We will also enter the emblematic via Crociferi, known for its 18th-century buildings and monumental churches, such as San Giuliano and San Camillo. We'll examine the characteristics of Sicilian Baroque and note that Catania is a World Heritage Site and one of the late baroque cities of Val di Noto.
