Join us on this complimentary walking tour of Catania, where we will explore the rich history of a city that has risen from devastation over seven times, much like a phoenix.

Tour Overview

We will convene at the designated time in front of the Basilica della Collegiata, nestled in the bustling Via Etnea. This complimentary tour of Catania will take us through a city shaped by volcanic activity, earthquakes, and military conflicts. Are you prepared to delve into its most captivating historical narratives?

Our guided exploration will begin with an introduction to the roots of this Sicilian treasure as we gaze upon the Roman amphitheatre, a remarkable 2nd-century edifice crafted from basalt sourced from the Etna volcano. While we appreciate this architectural marvel, we will recount the founding of the Greek settlement of Katane and trace its evolution until the decline of the Roman Empire.

Throughout the journey, we will also uncover the story of the renowned composer Vincenzo Bellini, affectionately known as The Swan of Catania, as well as the legend surrounding Saint Agatha, the city’s esteemed patron saint.

Moreover, we will stroll through the iconic Via Crociferi, a street adorned with 18th-century architecture and grand churches like San Giuliano and San Camillo. Our discussion will include the nuances of Sicilian Baroque. Did you know Catania is recognized as a World Heritage Site and part of the late baroque cities of Val di Noto?

After two hours of exploration, we will conclude our complimentary tour of Catania at the initial meeting point.
