On this guided tour of Catania, you'll discover the city's history, art, and traditions, exploring its charming corners and historic monuments.

Tour Details

We'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to begin our guided tour. The tour will start with an introduction to the city's origins and events like the lava flow in 1669 and the earthquake in 1693.

Next, we will walk to Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain to learn about Liotru, Catania's iconic elephant. We'll also visit the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, which honor Agatha of Sicily, the town's patron saint. After crossing the Fontana dell'Amenano, we will explore the lively atmosphere of the fish market.

Then, we'll proceed to the serene Via dei Crociferi, showcasing the Baroque in Catania and connections to the Catania lost after the 1693 earthquake.

We'll return to Piazza dell'Università, passing by Baroque buildings and receiving insights into Sicilian legends. The tour concludes at the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, characteristically made of black volcanic stone, marking the edge of the medieval city. We will finish after a guided tour of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
