On this guided tour of Catania, you'll discover the city's history, art, and traditions. Explore its charming corners and streets filled with historic monuments.

Tour Details

We'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to begin our guided tour of Catania.

The tour starts with an explanation of the city's origins and significant events, including the lava flow in 1669 and the earthquake in 1693 in the Val di Noto.

Next, we'll walk to Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain, home to Catania's famous elephant, Liotru. We will uncover the legends surrounding this iconic figure.

The tour includes visits to the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, which honor Agatha of Sicily, the town's patron saint. Crossing the Fontana dell'Amenano, you'll experience the vibrant atmosphere of the fish market.

We'll then proceed to the peaceful Via dei Crociferi, an example of the Baroque in Catania, and learn about its connections to the pre-earthquake Catania.

The tour concludes with a stroll back to Piazza dell'Università and a visit to the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, showcasing its unique black volcanic stone. The tour lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes.
