Tour Details
We'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to start our guided tour of Catania. The tour begins with an overview of the city's origins and significant events, including the lava flow in 1669 and the earthquake in 1693.
Next, we'll head to Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain, where you will learn about the legends of Liotru. The tour includes visits to the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, reflecting on Agatha of Sicily, the town's patron saint. Following this, we'll visit the Fontana dell'Amenano and the vibrant fish market, where you can purchase local products.
Leaving the market, we will proceed to the serene Via dei Crociferi, showcasing Baroque architecture and connections to the pre-earthquake Catania. We conclude our tour by returning to Piazza dell'Università, enjoying Baroque buildings and Sicilian legends, before visiting the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, notable for its black volcanic stone.
