Description

At the indicated time we'll meet in front of the Church of San Nicolò, from where we'll start a tour about Mount Etna. We'll remember its eruptions and see the repercussions on the city of Catania while exploring interesting locations.

First, we'll enter the courtyard of the Benedictine monastery of Catania, which was damaged by the eruption of 1669. Important remains, including huge blocks of lava, are visible today.

Next, we'll descend towards the Baths of the Rotonda and the Roman theatre while discussing the Amenano River and its largely underground riverbed.

We will then head to the Castello Ursino, a fortress surrounded by lava, to learn how the eruption impacted city architecture.

On morning tours, we will follow the course of the solidified lava flow to A putia dell'Ostello hostel, showcasing a hidden jewel in its bar. On afternoon tours, we will visit the Pozo di Gammazita linked to the 1669 eruption and its legend.

This tour of the Etna eruption in Catania concludes at the hostel bar after 2 hours.
