Mount Etna + Volcanic Caves Hiking Tour

On this tour from Catania, we'll hike around Etna and its volcanic caves. We will explore one of the most famous volcanoes in the world and learn about volcanology.

Description

We will meet at Piazza Paolo Borsellino and board a bus to Mount Etna. After an hour's drive, we will arrive at the Sapienza Nicolosi refuge and have 30 minutes to explore the Silvestri craters of Etna, formed during the 1892 eruption.

Afterward, we will begin our hiking route on Etna. The approximately 3.5-hour hike will include crossing forests, seeing secondary craters, and walking through black sand deserts alongside ancient lava flows. We will reach the Bove Valley, which measures more than 8 kilometers long (5 miles). We will then wear our helmets and enter a volcanic cave.

We will spend half an hour exploring one of Etna's volcanic tubes to discover important facts about volcanology. Finally, we will return to the bus and go back to Catania, concluding the excursion after a total of 6.5-7 hours.

Sunset hike (5 hours)

You can choose the evening hike starting at 4:30 pm. This experience will last five hours and allow you to witness the sunset over Mount Etna.
