Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Trip
Pickup will be at 8 a.m. from your hotel in San Ignacio, with a journey of about an hour and a half to Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, a prominent Mayan archaeological site in Belize.
Within the cave, learn about the Mayans' beliefs surrounding death and view human skeletons over a thousand years old, sacrificed in honor of the god Chaac. The tour includes observing up to 14 sets of human remains and understanding their burial practices, including the significance of the renowned Crystal Maiden and the presence of pottery and clay with the remains.
After a three-hour tour, we will return outside for a lunch of rice, beans, chicken, and fried plantain. The excursion concludes with a return to San Ignacio at approximately 5 p.m.
Who can take part in the activity?
Participants must be a minimum height of 1 meter (3.2 feet) and should be able to swim.
