Travel back in time to the Mayan era with a day trip to the archaeological site of Lamanai. You'll sail along the Nuevo River and stroll among the pyramids and temples of this pre-Columbian city.
Description
Pick up from your hotel in San Ignacio will be at 6 am, followed by travel to the dock known as Bats Landing, which leads to the northern lowlands of the country.
Upon arrival at the New River dock, you will embark on a voyage across the lagoon, exploring over 3000 years of Mayan history. Wildlife encounters may include the boat-billed heron, crocodiles, river turtles, and Yucatan black howler monkeys as you delve into the forest that hosted this civilization.
At the archaeological site, a knowledgeable tour guide will provide insights based on your interests. Approximately 1.5 hours will be spent exploring the site, after which you will enjoy a lunch. Following lunch, the return journey to the New River dock will commence.
