Join us on this day trip to Xunantunich and explore the remains of the Mayan civilization.

Description

Pickup from your hotel in San Ignacio will be at 8 am, followed by a 15-minute drive to Xunantunich, an ancient Mayan city known as “Stone Woman.” Afterward, we will take a ferry ride along the river for approximately 15 minutes, where wildlife such as iguanas and bats can be observed.

The ferry will transport us across the Mopán River to the city. Following a 1-mile drive, we'll begin our exploration of Xunantunich.

During the walk, our guide will provide insights into Mayan archaeology. As we approach the center of the city, we will see “El Castillo,” a structure about 130 feet tall (39 meters), which is the second tallest man-made structure in Belize. Visitors can climb to the top for a 360-degree view of the area.

We will continue through the Central Plaza and visit the Ancient Mayan Ball Court, residential areas, and the Astronomical Observatory, which played a key role in agricultural activities.

At the end of the tour, we will return to San Ignacio, with drop-off at the office or your hotel scheduled between 12:30 pm and 1 pm.
