Xunantunich Day Trip

Join us on this day trip to Xunantunich and explore the Mayan civilization's remains.

Description

Pickup will be at 8 am from your hotel in San Ignacio. The journey includes a scenic 15-minute drive to Xunantunich, an ancient Mayan city. We will board a ferry for a 15-minute ride along the river, where you may see iguanas and bats.

To access Xunantunich, we will use a hand-cranked ferry across the Mopán River. A 1-mile drive will follow as we begin our expedition. Our guide will provide insights into Mayan archeology while we navigate through the understory, leading to the impressive structure of “El Castillo”.

El Castillo stands at approximately 130 feet tall (39 meters), the second tallest structure in Belize, and offers a 360-degree view from the top. After exploring the Central Plaza, we will visit additional sites, including the Ancient Mayan Ball Court, where Pok-A-Tok was played, residential areas, and the Astronomical Observatory, important for agricultural timing.

Following the tour, we will return to San Ignacio for a drop-off at your hotel or the office, with arrival expected between 12:30 pm and 1 pm.
