Join us on this day trip to Xunantunich and explore the remnants of the Mayan civilization.

Description

We will pick you up from your hotel in San Ignacio at 8 am for a 15-minute drive to Xunantunich, an ancient Mayan city located in a valley. We will then take a 15-minute ferry ride along the river, where you can observe iguanas and bats.

The crossing to Xunantunich involves a hand-cranked ferry over the Mopán River, followed by a 1-mile drive to our starting point. During our walk, the guide will share insights on Mayan Archaeology. As we approach the central part of the city, the impressive structure of “El Castillo” will come into view.

El Castillo stands at approximately 130 feet tall (39 metres), making it the second tallest man-made structure in Belize. You will have the chance to climb to the top for a 360-degree view of the area.

After exploring the Central Plaza, we will continue our tour, visiting the Ancient Mayan Ball Court, residential areas, and the Astronomical Observatory, which was key for celestial observations important for agricultural practices.

At the end of the tour, we will return to San Ignacio and drop you off at your hotel or our office, with arrival expected between 12:30 pm and 1 pm.
