Join this exciting excursion to Matera and get to know one of the 2019 European Capitals of Culture.

Matera Excursion

We will pick you up at your hotel in Palinuro in the early morning and travel by bus to Matera.

Upon arrival, we'll tour the center of Matera, known for its unique dwellings called the Sassi, recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1993.

The tour includes visits to the Sasso Barisano and the Sasso Caveoso, where our guide will share insights on the history from the 1950s to Matera being named a European Capital of Culture in 2019.

We will also explore important Baroque temples such as the Matera Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and the Church of Santa Chiara.

After a short break for lunch, participants may visit notable rock churches, including the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, the Church of San Pietro Barisano, and the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

Finally, we'll return to Palinuro by bus.
