Join this exciting excursion to Matera and get to know one of the 2019 European Capitals of Culture. You'll be intoxicated by its charm!
Matera Excursion
Early in the morning, we will pick you up at your hotel in Palinuro and head by bus to Matera.
Upon arrival, we will tour the center of Matera, known for its unique dwellings called the Sassi, a World Heritage Site since 1993.
During the tour, we will visit Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, where our guide will discuss their history, including the living conditions in the 1950s and Matera's designation as a European Capital of Culture in 2019.
We will also see important Baroque temples such as the Matera Cathedral, Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and Church of Santa Chiara.
After a short lunch break, participants can visit some of the famous rock churches of Matera, including Church of Santa Maria di Idris, Church of San Pietro Barisano, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.
At the end of the excursion, we will return to Palinuro by bus.
