On this private excursion around the north of Mauritius, you'll discover Port Louis, the island’s capital. We will visit Pamplemousses, tour the botanical gardens, explore an old sugar factory that now houses a museum, and visit the Labourdonnais plantation for a tasting of local rum and tropical sorbets.
Description
After collecting you from your hotel at the indicated time, we will head to Port Louis, established as a secure port by the French in the 17th century and now the most important harbour in the region. We will explore the streets of Port Louis and browse Central Market, a traditional commercial space.
Next, we will stop at Caudan Waterfront, a commercial center with various shops and restaurants housed in historical buildings. Our guide will then take you to Chinatown, where we will pass through the ‘friendship gate’ and see pagodas and small restaurants. We will visit Fort Adelaide, a colonial citadel, before you have free time for lunch.
We will leave Port Louis and head to the Botanical Gardens in Pamplemousses, which date back over 200 years, allowing you to admire the giant water lilies at your own pace. You can also opt to add a visit to an old sugar factory, now the “L’Aventure du Sucre” museum, where you will tour the plantation and see its gardens. You will sample rum, juice, and jams produced here.
The tour concludes with a return to your hotel, approximately 8 hours after the initial pickup.
