2-Day Tour of Oxapampa

Day 1: La Merced - Oxapampa - Pozuzo

Your adventure commences at 8 am with a pickup from your hotel in La Merced, as we journey into the heart of Oxapampa. Our initial destination is the charming town of Oxapampa, the district's capital, known for its blend of culture and stunning architecture. Here, you'll note the unique wooden houses influenced by Austro-German settlers, including the remarkable Church of Santa Rosa, designed in the Tyrolean style.

Next, we’ll drive through the scenic valley surrounding Oxapampa, stopping at the Huarapo farm, an agricultural estate where delicious sugar cane brandy is produced. Take this opportunity to taste some of the farm’s flavorful offerings.

Your immersion into local culture continues with a visit to a trout farm and a dairy plant. Afterward, you’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch at your convenience before we make our way to Pozuzo. En route, prepare to be amazed by breathtaking sights, including the renowned Rayantambo and Yuliqunti waterfalls, as well as the expansive Yanachanga National Park, a significant wetland area.

Upon arrival in Pozuzo, you’ll check in and unwind after a day filled with exploration.

Day 2: Pozuzo - La Merced

The second day begins with a delicious breakfast at your lodging, catering to your energy needs for the day's adventures. We’ll then embark on a guided walk through Pozuzo, including a visit to the historic Church of San José, the first church constructed by early settlers in 1875.

In front of the church stands a monument honoring the colony's founder, Father Joseph Egg. As we continue, the main square reveals the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Francisco Shafferer Museum, where you can view artifacts from the first European settlers.

Next, we’ll head to the remarkable Emperor Wilhelm I suspension bridge, built in 1877. As we stroll through Pozuzo, admire various European-style buildings, including the Budweiser house, the House of Culture, and the District Municipality.

Our next stop will be Pozuzo's cemetery, followed by a pause for lunch. Afterwards, we’ll return to La Merced where you will be dropped off at your hotel around 5 to 6 pm.
