Villa Rica & El Oconal Lagoon Day Trip

At 8 am, pickup will be from your hotel in La Merced, and we will begin our exploration of the province of Oxapampa.

This area has been inhabited by three different civilizations: the Campas to the east, the Amueshas to the west, and the Cashibos to the northeast. These Amazonian tribes lived in harmony, with the region known for its waterfalls and agricultural products such as coffee, pineapple, and rocoto.

Our first stop is the village of Villa Rica, where we will discuss its significance as a coffee producer. During a street stroll, we will visit the Chapel of Our Lady of Rosario, made entirely of wood, and the Plaza de Armas located in the town's center.

You will then have some free time for lunch before proceeding to El Oconal Lagoon, a vital wetland area inhabited by fish like catfish and tilapia and white herons. This lagoon was formed by fluvial deposits during the Cenozoic period some 50 million years ago.

After an unforgettable 9-hour day trip, we will return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel.
