Discover two of the most famous places in central Peru's Oxapampa region on our day trip to Villa Rica and El Oconal Lagoon. You'll visit an area rich in biodiversity and history.

Villa Rica & El Oconal Lagoon Day Trip

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in La Merced to start exploring the Oxapampa province.

This region has been inhabited by three different civilizations: the Campas to the east, the Amueshas to the west, and the Cashibos to the northeast, all Amazonian tribes that coexisted. Today, the area is known for its waterfalls and agricultural products, including coffee, pineapple, and rocoto.

Our first stop will be the village of Villa Rica, where we'll discuss its significance as a coffee producer. You will see the Chapel of Our Lady of Rosario made of wood and the Plaza de Armas, the town's central square.

You'll have free time for lunch before we head to the El Oconal Lagoon, a vital wetland home to fish like catfish and tilapia, as well as white herons. This lagoon was formed by fluvial deposits during the Cenozoic period approximately 50 million years ago.

After an unforgettable 9-hour day trip, we'll return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel.
