Villa Rica & El Oconal Lagoon Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in La Merced and begin our exploration of the Oxapampa province.
This area has been home to three civilizations: the Campas to the east, the Amueshas to the west, and the Cashibos to the northeast. These Amazonian tribes coexisted harmoniously. The region is known for its waterfalls and agricultural products like coffee, pineapple, and rocoto.
Our first stop is the village of Villa Rica, where we'll discuss its significance as a coffee producer. As we walk through the streets, we'll see the Chapel of Our Lady of Rosario and the Plaza de Armas.
You will have some free time to have lunch before we head to El Oconal Lagoon, a wetland area home to catfish, tilapia, and white herons. This lagoon was formed by fluvial deposits during the Cenozoic period about 50 million years ago.
After an unforgettable 9-hour day trip, we will return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel.
