Are you a first-time visitor or a new resident looking to get introduced to Charlotte? This signature UPTOWN FUNK tour is a 1 hour and 1-mile loop of the city centre highlighting Charlotte's history, sports, arts and culture.

Description

On the day of the activity, at the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Spiral Odyssey Sculpture in Romare Bearden Park. We will begin this walking tour of the city of Charlotte to discover its charms. This tour will provide insights into Charlotte's past and present.

At our starting point in the park, we will set the scene amidst urban art. Then, we'll exit the park as our guide narrates the city's transformation from a trading post along the Catawba path to a banking hub. We will also discuss the impact of the former gold mines and trace the city's evolution from milltowns to a modern metropolis.

Continuing this walking tour, we will learn about the legacy of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, and connections to artist Romare Bearden and basketball superstar Michael Jordan. We will stop to view vibrant street art, towering skyscrapers, and important landmarks.

After 1 hour and nearly 2 kilometers of walking, we will conclude this tour at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
