Visit the famous imposing statue in southern Sichuan with this Leshan Buddha private tour from Chengdu. Discover the history of one of the sculptural wonders built during the Tang Dynasty.
Private Leshan Buddha Tour
After picking you up at your hotel in Chengdu, we'll head to Leshan, approximately two and a half hours away.
On arrival, we'll start with a guided tour around the Leshan Giant Buddha. This colossal sculpture, standing at 71 metres (232 feet) high and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was sculpted in the 8th century into the Mount Lingyun cliff. It is one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world.
This area is notable, as it is where several rivers meet. The Giant Buddha was built to protect those who sailed in the turbulent waters. The ferocity of these currents lessened after the creation of the sculpture, explained during the tour.
To reach the Giant Buddha, you can choose to take a boat ride for optimal photo opportunities or climb the mountain on foot, passing Buddhist temples and ancient sculptures along the way.
Regardless of your approach, we will explore the local saying "The mountain is Buddha and Buddha is the mountain." The sculpture is also a pilgrimage centre for many devotees.
We will conclude our tour at a local restaurant, where you will have free time to taste traditional Sichuan cuisine at your own expense.
After lunch, we will return to Chengdu and drop you off at your hotel after 10 hours of activity.
