Spending a few days in Chetumal? Don't miss this day trip to Calakmul, where we'll visit one of the most important ancient Maya cities in Mexico.

Day Trip Details

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at your hotel in Chetumal to set off to the archaeological site of Calakmul, which means "Snake Kingdom."

For approximately 3.5 hours, we'll travel through jungle landscapes until reaching the entrance of this natural site. Before arriving at the Calakmul ruins, we'll stop to walk along a path in the tropical jungle for 1 hour, where you may see local fauna, including howler monkeys and toucans.

After the jungle exploration, we’ll continue to the archaeological site of Calakmul. This ancient Mayan city covers 70 square kilometers (27 square miles) and contains more than 6,000 buried structures. Calakmul is both an archaeological site and a location of biological diversity within the Campeche jungle.

You will explore key structures such as the Great Plaza, the Ball Court, and the Acropolis, while learning about the history and traditions of the Maya through their carved stone stelai.

After spending 4 hours at this site, we will start our journey back, arriving at your hotel after 13 hours.
