On this tour of the Santa Eulalia mines, we'll discover the minerals and semi-precious stones found in one of the most famous mining deposits in the state of Chihuahua.
Santa Eulalia Mines Tour
At the selected time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and take you to the mining town of Santa Eulalia, located 12 miles from Chihuahua.
Upon arrival, we'll discuss the history of this town, founded in 1652 by the Spanish captain Diego del Castillo after a silver mine was discovered. Further mining discoveries later contributed to the economic and demographic growth of Santa Eulalia.
We will also share facts about Santa Eulalia, including that the first settlement of the city of Chihuahua was located here. Eventually, the state capital was moved to a different area of the valley, leading to the current city.
Next, we'll visit one of the legendary mines that made Santa Eulalia famous, where we will see various minerals, such as calcites and semi-precious stones, and learn about the historical stages of these deposits, including their decline in activity in the mid-20th century.
Later, we'll head to the Santa Eulalia viewpoint for a panoramic view of the neighboring city of Chihuahua. Cameras at the ready!
Finally, we will conclude the tour and take you back to your hotel after three hours of sightseeing.
