On this hike through the Chilean wilderness, we'll admire the beautiful and varied Patagonian landscapes until we reach the Cueva de las Manos, where we'll see a collection of cave paintings.
Patagonia Hike to the Cueva de las Manos
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Chile Chico at 7:30 am and board a minibus or 4x4 to the trailhead in Patagonia National Park. The trekking route will be 7 kilometers (4.4 miles) long and of medium difficulty, crossing the arid landscapes of the Patagonian plains. As we progress away from the shore of Lake General Carrera, we will observe the gradual changes in the landscape.
We will make several stops to appreciate the geological features of Chilean Patagonia. A notable stop will be at Piedra Clavada, a needle-shaped rock 40 meters (130 feet) high formed by wind erosion.
The trail will lead us to the Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands), where we'll observe paintings that are over 10,000 years old. The ancient inhabitants depicted various animals they hunted and outlined their hands.
The hike will conclude at Lunar Valley, known for its moon-like landscapes, where we will enjoy a light snack.
Finally, we will return to the trail's starting point and head back to your hotel in Chile Chico, arriving at approximately 1:30 pm.
