On this hike through the Chilean wilderness, we'll admire the beautiful and varied Patagonian landscapes until we reach the Cueva de las Manos. In this prehistoric cave, we'll observe a collection of cave paintings.

Patagonia Hike to the Cueva de las Manos

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Chile Chico at 7:30 am and board a minibus or 4x4 to the trailhead in Patagonia National Park. The trekking route begins in this natural enclave.

During the 7-kilometer (4.4-mile), medium-difficulty route, we'll traverse the arid landscapes of the Patagonian plains, moving away from the shore of Lake General Carrera as the landscape changes.

Several stops will be made to appreciate the geological features in the area of the Chilean Patagonia, including the striking Piedra Clavada: a needle-shaped rock 40 meters (130 feet) high formed by wind erosion.

We will then arrive at the famous Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands), where we can see numerous paintings over 10,000 years old depicting the animals hunted by ancient inhabitants and outlines of their hands.

The hike concludes at a location called Lunar Valley, known for its moon-like landscapes. While enjoying the scenery, we'll have a light snack.

Finally, we'll return to the beginning of the trail and head back to your hotel in Chile Chico, arriving at approximately 1:30 pm.
