Sighisoara and Biertan Trip
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Matias Corvino monument in the center of Cluj. From here, we'll set off on our journey to Biertan and Sighisoara.
We'll pass through the Carpathians en route to Biertan. In this village, we'll visit its fortified church, a notable example of 12th-century Saxon architecture. We'll learn about the village's customs and German cultural influences.
Next, we'll stop in Medias, characterized by cobblestone streets, ramparts, and colorful Saxon houses. Here, we'll view the exterior of St. Margaret's church and the Trumpeters' tower, and visit a gypsy village to explore its culture and blacksmithing heritage.
Our trip continues to Sighisoara Citadel, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and designated as a World Heritage Site. This site is famously the birthplace of Vlad III, "the Impaler", the real-life figure behind the Dracula legend.
There will be a break in Sighisoara for lunch at a local restaurant (not included). We will discuss life in the medieval city, the various guilds, and the fourteen towers of the citadel, nine of which are still standing.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Church on the Hill, featuring an impressive ascent of 170 steps to see this Gothic structure and its restored frescoes up close. Our adventure wraps up after a total of 11 hours back at the meeting point in Cluj.
