Visitors arriving in this picturesque region of Burgundy were often mesmerized by the grand sight of the magnificent Cluny Abbey. At one time, this Benedictine monastery was recognized as the largest Christian church worldwide, until the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome took that title.
The evolution of Art in Europe is intertwined with Cluny Abbey, whose Romanesque style served as a blueprint for numerous similar establishments across the continent. With this ticket, you will gain access to the remnants of the ancient abbey, which has origins tracing back to 909 AD.
As you stroll through the renowned cloister of Cluny and other sections of the abbey, you will discover how the Benedictine monks lived their faith and how their way of life influenced various religious orders that flourished throughout medieval Europe.

Visiting Hours
The abbey welcomes guests Monday through Sunday during the following hours:
April 1 - June 30: from 9:30 am to 6 pmJuly 1 - August 31: from 9:30 am to 7 pmSeptember 1 - 30: from 9:30 am - 6 pmOctober 1 - March 31: from 9:30 am - 5 pm
The final entry to the abbey is permitted 45 minutes before closing, while access to the museum ends 30 minutes prior to closing time.
Note: Due to the extreme heat warning in Saône-et-Loire, the opening hours will be adjusted to 8:30 am to 5 pm until further notice, with last entry at 4:15 pm.
Special Opening Hours
On December 24 and 31, the Abbey will close early at 4 pm.
Admission Policy
The entry to Cluny Abbey is free for certain individuals:
Young adults aged 18 to 25 from the European Union.All children under the age of 18, regardless of nationality.
Moreover, entry is complimentary for all visitors on the first Sunday of each month from January 1 to March 31, and November 1 to December 31. The 3rd weekend of September also offers free admission.
To receive the free entry benefits listed above, visitors must obtain a ticket at the site’s ticket office and provide a valid document confirming eligibility for a complimentary ticket.
