Pilgrims were captivated by the sight of Cluny Abbey, the largest Christian church until St. Peter's Basilica was built. Understanding the history of art in Europe requires knowledge of Cluny Abbey, whose Romanesque architecture inspired many other shrines across the continent. This ticket allows you to visit the remains of the abbey, originating from 909.

Visiting the cloister and abbey buildings, you will learn about the practices of the Benedictine monks and their influence on other religious orders during the Middle Ages.

Within this European Heritage site, you will also find what was once part of the renowned Arts et Métiers ParisTech University.

Opening Times

Cluny Abbey is open from Monday to Sunday at the following times:

April 1 - June 30: 9:30 am to 6 pmJuly 1 - August 31: 9:30 am to 7 pmSeptember 1 - 30: 9:30 am to 6 pmOctober 1 - March 31: 9:30 am to 5 pm

The Museum of Art and Archaeology is closed between 12:30 pm and 2 pm until the end of the year. On January 28, 2025, Cluny Abbey and the Museum will open at 11:30 am. Note that all times are flexible and subject to change.

The last access to the abbey is 45 minutes before closing, while museum access is 30 minutes before closing.

Special Opening Times

On December 24 and 31, 2025, Cluny Abbey will close at 4 pm.

Free Admission

Admission is free for:

EU citizens aged 18 to 25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.

Free admission is also available on the first Sunday of each month from January to March and November to December, as well as the 3rd weekend of September. To obtain free admission, present a certifying document at the ticket office.
