Three-Day Private Expedition to Toro Toro, Itas, and Valle Alto
Day 1: Cochabamba - Toro Toro - Umajalanta
Our adventure begins at 8 am on Calle Baptista, where we will board a bus for a five-hour journey to the Toro Toro National Park, departing from Cochabamba. This route takes us through charming colonial towns like Tarata and Anzaldo.
Upon arrival, we will check into our accommodations before exploring the stunning Toro Toro valley canyon. This site is renowned for its dinosaur footprints that date back millions of years, alongside impressive geological formations from the ancient Cretaceous Sea.
The day will conclude with a return to our Toro Toro hotel for dinner and a restful night.
Day 2: Itas - Cochabamba
After breakfast at the hotel, we will journey to Itas, situated at an elevation of 700 meters. This unique site offers breathtaking sandstone labyrinths and towering rock formations, providing a surreal, city-like experience amidst stone. The true highlight will be the mysterious cave paintings discovered within the tunnels.
Following this enthralling visit, we will head back to Toro Toro to retrieve our luggage before returning to Cochabamba.
Day 3: High Valley - Cochabamba
Post-breakfast, our exploration continues to the High Valley, where we will discover its key attractions, starting with the town of Arani, known for its delicious mama qonqachis—an enormous cheese bread. A visit to the Renaissance-style church of San Bartolomé, affectionately dubbed La Bella, will be included.
The itinerary proceeds to Punata, often referred to as the pearl of the Valle Alto, a significant historical site during the Bolivian War of Independence. Here, we will experience a workshop that produces rosquetes, sweet treats made with flour, eggs, butter, and sugar.
Our final stop is Huayculi, recognized as the hub of pottery. In this welcoming village, we will delve into the local pottery tradition, passed down through generations, before making a brief visit to the village of Tarata, where we can stroll through its picturesque colonial streets.
Ultimately, we will return to Cochabamba, concluding our tour back at Calle Baptista around 5 pm.
