Excursion to Teotitlán del Valle, Mitla & Mezcal Distillery

The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel and a journey 7 miles (12 km) to Santa Maria del Tule, home to the tree with the largest trunk in the world, at 14 meters in diameter and over 1,400 years old.

Next, we will visit the colorful Teotitlán del Valle village, known for its local artisans who create textiles using traditional methods passed down through generations. You will learn about the Zapotec culture that has been preserved here.

We will continue to Mitla, a significant architectural site in Oaxaca, where we will explore the ruins of a former Zapotec village known for its contributions to architecture, astronomy, and engineering. The site features elaborately decorated walls and ornate halls leading to the church.

The itinerary also includes a visit to a candle workshop to learn about traditional candle-making, particularly the vela de concha and aromatic candles. The excursion concludes with a mezcal production overview, including a tasting to experience the different flavor notes.
