Uncover the fascinating history of this Portuguese city as you embark on a captivating free tour of Coimbra. Immerse yourself in its rich heritage and explore iconic monuments.

Description

At the agreed time, we'll meet at the Agência Banco de Portugal in Largo da Portagem to start this 2-hour and 45-minute free tour of Coimbra.

First, we'll head to the Praça do Comércio, home to the historic Churches of St. Bartholomew and St. James.

Then, we'll meander through the narrow streets of Coimbra's center and pass by the Monastery of Santa Cruz, a national pantheon with a significant theological and cultural legacy, known as a past school for notable saints.

Next, we'll arrive at Quebras Costas, a square filled with the sounds of Coimbra's Fado during festivals, featuring two notable monuments.

Our tour will continue to the Torre do Anto, providing views of the city's left side. We'll then see the Sé-Velha, the only Romanesque-style cathedral in Portugal from the Christian Reconquista era.

Lastly, we'll stop at the University of Coimbra, established in 1290, one of Europe's oldest universities, concluding at the botanical garden of the University of Coimbra, the second oldest in Portugal.
