Paiva Walkways Experience

At the designated time, we'll collect you from your accommodation in Coimbra and make our way to the picturesque Areinho river beach, nestled along the Paiva River.

Upon arrival, we will provide you with essential instructions before setting off on our 8-kilometer hike (approximately 5 miles), which is anticipated to last about two and a half hours.

As we navigate the wooden pathways above the Paiva River, known as passadiços in Portuguese, you will gain insights into the geology of this stunning natural area in Northern Portugal. Our journey will also delve into the rich local wildlife and plant life, as well as the archaeological significance of this fascinating region.

Midway through the hike, we will pause briefly at Praia do Vau for a moment of rest. Here, we will share the remarkable story behind the reconstruction of these wooden paths. The innovative design garnered the Leading Tourism Development Project in Europe award at the World Travel Awards in 2016, a testament to its creative vision.

After our stop at Praia do Vau, we will continue our hike along the Paiva Walkways, concluding at the serene Espiunca river beach. Following this, we will return to your hotel in Coimbra, arriving approximately four and a half hours after pickup.
