Serra da Estrela Day Trip

On this day trip we'll discover the beauty of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Portugal.

Tour Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Avenida Emídio Navarro in Coimbra to start this day trip through the Serra da Estrela.

Our first stop will be Sabugueiro, 90 minutes from Coimbra. It is the highest village in Portugal, located at 1200 meters (3,937 ft) above sea level.

During our visit, we will discuss the Estrela Mountain Dog, one of the oldest Portuguese shepherd dog breeds in the Iberian Peninsula. Then, we'll continue our journey to the highest point of the Portuguese mainland.

We will pass by key locations such as Mondeguinho, the source of Portugal's largest river, the town of Manteigas, the “heart of the Serra da Estrela,” home to the UNESCO Estrela Geopark, the Zêzere Glacier Valley, and Covão da Ametade.

At the top, we'll view the Tower, at 1993 meters (6,538 ft), offering impressive views of the Serra da Estrela. You'll also have the opportunity to taste Queijo da Serra, a typical cheese from this region.

We will then descend through the Ski Station, passing Lagoa Comprida and Senhora do Desterro, concluding the tour after a total of 9 hours of hiking.
