If you haven’t yet explored the most remote region of inland Portugal, this Slate Villages Tour of the Serra da Lousã is the perfect opportunity.

Tour Details

At the designated time, we’ll pick you up at the Astoria Hotel in Coimbra to set off for the mountains of Sicó and Lousã. Along the way, we’ll visit several villages in this picturesque inland region of Portugal and explore stunning natural caves.

Our journey begins with a visit to the slate-built villages of the Serra da Lousã, where we’ll learn about rural traditions and life in the countryside. We’ll then ascend to the mountain peaks for views of limestone formations shaped over centuries.

The villages we’ll visit include Cerdeira, Candal, Talasnal, and Casal Novo. We’ll also admire the Castle of Arouce and the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Beach, a natural beach below the foothills.

Next, we’ll travel through Trevim to reach the famous Lousã swing, where we’ll enjoy lunch featuring chanfana (goat slow-cooked in a wood-fired oven), with other options available.

To conclude the day, we’ll visit Rabaçal, known as the cheese capital, for a tasting of regional sheep and goat cheeses, olive oils, bread, and wine.

This 8-hour excursion will conclude when we return to the starting point.
