If you haven’t yet explored the most remote region of inland Portugal, this Slate Villages Tour of the Serra da Lousã is the perfect opportunity.
Tour Details
We’ll pick you up at the Astoria Hotel in Coimbra to set off for the mountains of Sicó and Lousã. Along the way, we’ll visit stunning natural caves and several villages in this picturesque inland region.
The journey includes visits to the slate-built villages of the Serra da Lousã, where we’ll explore rural traditions. We’ll ascend the mountain peaks for views of the limestone formations.
Villages we’ll visit include Cerdeira, Candal, Talasnal, and Casal Novo. We’ll also see the Castle of Arouce and the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Beach, a natural beach at the foothills.
Next, we’ll travel through Trevim to the famous Lousã swing, where lunch will feature chanfana (goat slow-cooked in a wood-fired oven), with other options available.
To conclude the day, we’ll visit Rabaçal, known for its cheese, for a tasting of regional sheep and goat cheeses, olive oils, bread, and wine.
This 8-hour excursion will conclude with a return to the starting point.
