Join our guided tour of the University of Coimbra to explore the Paço das Escolas, St. Michael's Chapel, and the Joanina Library while learning about the history and student life of this city.
Description
At the designated time, we'll meet next to the Dom Dinis Statue to start our guided tour of the University of Coimbra, one of Portugal's oldest educational institutions.
The tour begins with a visit to the Paço das Escolas, a royal palace housing university faculties since 1537. This architectural complex includes the University Tower and highlights its historical significance.
Inside the university, we'll visit the Sala dos Capelos, the main hall for academic ceremonies, and share stories associated with this space.
We will also learn about the university's notable alumni and enter the Joanina Library, known for its baroque architecture and recognized as one of the world's most beautiful.
The tour includes a visit to the Chapel of St. Michael, dating from the sixteenth century, significant to the Professors and Students brotherhood.
After an hour and a half of exploration, we will conclude our tour with a greater appreciation for the university's rich history.
