Join our guided tour of the University of Coimbra to explore important sites such as the Paço das Escolas, St. Michael's Chapel, and the Joanina Library in this historic Portuguese city.
Description
At the designated time, we'll meet next to the Dom Dinis Statue to begin our guided tour of the University of Coimbra, established in 1537 and one of Portugal's oldest educational institutions.
The tour starts at the Paço das Escolas, a royal palace featuring the University Tower and significant historical details. Inside, we will visit the Sala dos Capelos, where important academic ceremonies occur. We will share stories related to these spaces as we explore.
We will also discuss the university's notable alumni before entering the impressive Joanina Library, recognized for its baroque architecture and considered one of the world's most beautiful libraries.
Additionally, the Chapel of St. Michael, from the sixteenth century, plays a significant role for the brotherhood of Professors and Students.
After an hour and a half of exploration, we will conclude our tour, leaving with a deeper appreciation of the university's rich history.
