On this day trip to the Omega Observatory from La Serena, you will visit one of the three most important astronomical centres in the Elqui Valley, experiencing one of the clearest skies in the world.
Day Trip Details
You will be picked up at your hotel in La Serena to head to the Omega astronomical observatory. Upon arrival, an informative talk will be provided outside the facilities, teaching you how to identify the sky with the naked eye. Using a laser, the map of the constellations visible at sunset will be presented.
Participants will take turns using 2 high-end 16-inch and 24-inch telescopes to observe a variety of celestial objects including planets, nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, and binary stars.
The stargazing will continue with discussions on the Greek worldview and zodiac signs, along with insights into the astronomical theories of indigenous people from the Chilean highlands, particularly their views on the Milky Way and dark constellations.
The experience concludes with a digital astrophotography photo to commemorate the visit before returning to your hotel.
