On this guided tour of Corfu, you'll explore the history among two Venetian fortresses in the island's capital.
Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Old Fortress of Corfu to begin the guided tour of the island's capital's most emblematic sites.
First, we will walk through the Boschetto Garden and then proceed to the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, the former summer residence for a royal Greek family, housing the Museum of Asian Art of Corfu.
Next, we will walk along the pedestrian street of Listón to reach Spianada Square, the largest square in Corfu's old town. We will discuss the cricket games occasionally held in this area.
We will then admire the Teatro di San Giacomo, a center for Greek opera from 1733 to 1893 and former rehearsal location for Antonio Vivaldi, which became the City Hall in 1903.
Finally, we will explore the Jewish Quarter, examining the history of the Jewish community in Corfu, founded in the 12th century, and its impact on the island's society.
We will conclude this 2.5-hour tour back in the old town, near the starting point.
