Description
Reservations allow you to select from hiking routes in Talampaya National Park, beginning at the designated time from the Talampaya Canyon Operational Center. Each route reaches an altitude of 1300 meters (4,265 feet), with varying durations and difficulty levels:
Quebrada Don Eduardo (3 hours)
This low-difficulty hike covers the scenic Quebrada Don Eduardo, named after a local muleteer. During the 3-hour hike, you can spot condors while enjoying the landscape. The route includes a viewpoint overlooking the Talampaya riverbed, and visits geological formations like El Flautista and the Geological Fault viewpoint, concluding at the Gothic Labyrinth.
Talampaya Canyon (3 hours)
This route is an easy-paced 3-hour trek through the Talampaya Canyon, covering about 5 kilometers (3 miles). Key stops include the petroglyphs area showcasing archaeological remnants, Awanda Cave, and the Talampaya Botanical Garden, featuring local cacti and trees.
Quebrada Don Eduardo + Talampaya Canyon (4 hours)
This low-difficulty option combines the highlights of both previous routes over 4 hours, focusing on the region's geological features, wildlife, and native plants.
Quebrada Don Eduardo + Talampaya Canyon + Gran Mirador (5.5 hours)
This medium-difficulty route includes all previous sites plus an ascent to the Gran Mirador. This viewpoint offers panoramic views of the canyons, perfect for photography in one of La Rioja's most captivating locations.
