Communism Tour of Krakow
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the front door of St. Mary's Basilica to start a tour that will take you back to the communist era in Krakow. We will visit the most important monuments of the communist period.
We'll revisit the end of the German occupation after the Second World War, to the birth of the Polish People's Republic. Walking around the exterior of the Universities of Science and Technology and the University of Agriculture, we'll see sculptures that reflect the importance of communism in Krakow and Poland.
What was the way of life of the Polish population during this period? Throughout the tour, our expert guide will address these and other questions, enhancing your understanding of the history of Krakow.
We'll also explore areas where the Polish communist regime employed various forms of repression against the population, delving into some of the darkest episodes of Krakow's history.
Additionally, we'll visit the headquarters of the Solidarity trade union and some old factories near the city centre. A stop at one of Krakow's famous milk bars, a symbol of life during that time, will also be included.
Finally, we will end our 2-hour tour at the Jubilat building, the largest supermarket in Krakow during the communist era.
