Day 1
The Teotihuacan Pyramids and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Once you’ve been picked up from your hotel, we will leave Mexico City behind and make our way to the ruins of Teotihuacan, also known as the City of Gods. At its peak during the first millennium, this was once one of the biggest cities in America, with more than 100,000 habitants. With your local guide, you will be able to explore the magnificent pyramids, Sun and Moon, the Avenue of the Dead, the Temple of the Feathered Serpent and the Temple of the Butterflies.
Later, we make our way to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most visited religious spot in all of Latin America. It was constructed in 1531 after a local farmer had a vision of a girl surrounded by light, asking to him to build her a church in her honor. She identified herself as the Virgin Mary and she miraculously left an image of herself on the farmer’s cloak. The Basilica is a marvelous example of Spanish art from the Baroque period and is one of the most sacred and important sights for Catholics all over the world.
