Chordeleg & Gualaceo Day Trip
After hotel pickup in Cuenca, the tour begins with a drive through the surrounding mountains. The first stop is San Bartolomé, a traditional town in the Andes, where you can view the Santa Barbara River.
San Bartolomé is known for handcrafted guitars. You will visit a workshop to learn about the luthiers and their instrument-making techniques.
Next, the tour proceeds to Chordeleg, known for its ceramics and exquisite silver and gold filigree jewellery. Here, you will see local craftsmen demonstrate the delicate techniques used in creating these items.
In Chordeleg, explore the Plaza Central and the artisan stores before heading to Gualaceo, recognized for its textiles.
Experience the vibrant atmosphere of two traditional markets in Gualaceo, showcasing bright colours and intricate designs of handwoven fabrics. Visit a textiles workshop to see artisans at work with different looms and learn about the pre-Hispanic Ikat weaving technique used for creating ponchos.
