Handmade guitars, delicate gold and silver filigree jewellery, and vibrantly coloured textiles: discover the secrets of Ecuadorian craftwork on this day trip to San Bartolomé, Chordeleg, and Gualaceo from Cuenca.

Chordeleg & Gualaceo Day Trip

After being picked up from your hotel in Cuenca, you will travel through the mountains surrounding the city. The first stop is San Bartolomé, a traditional town in the Andes, offering views of the Santa Barbara River. San Bartolomé is noted for its handcrafted guitars, and you will visit a traditional workshop to learn about the guitar-making process.

The tour continues to Chordeleg, known for its ceramics and exquisite filigree jewellery made of silver and gold. You will witness the craftsmanship involved in creating these pieces during your visit to a local workshop. You will explore the centre of Chordeleg, strolling around the Plaza Central and visiting various artisan stores.

Your next stop is Gualaceo, famous for its incredible textiles. You will explore two traditional markets filled with vibrant fabrics and visit a textiles workshop to see the looms used by the artisans. You will also learn about the pre-Hispanic Ikat technique of weaving, commonly used for typical ponchos in the region.

After 4 hours of exploring the traditions of Azuay artisans, you will return to Cuenca and be dropped off at your original pickup point.
