Handmade guitars, gold and silver filigree jewellery, and vibrant textiles are central to Ecuadorian craftwork. This day trip to San Bartolomé, Chordeleg, and Gualaceo from Cuenca highlights these traditions.

Chordeleg & Gualaceo Day Trip

After hotel pickup in Cuenca, you will travel through the surrounding mountains. The first stop is San Bartolomé, a town in the Andes known for its handcrafted guitars. Here, you can visit a traditional workshop to learn about the craftsmanship of luthiers.

Your next destination is Chordeleg, recognized for its ceramics and exquisite filigree jewellery made from silver and gold. You will observe local craftspeople at work in their workshops.

In Chordeleg, you will stroll around the Plaza Central and visit various artisan stores before proceeding to Gualaceo, a village noted for its textiles.

In Gualaceo, explore two traditional markets filled with handwoven fabrics showcasing bright colors and intricate designs. You will visit a textiles workshop to see the different looms artisans use, including the pre-Hispanic Ikat technique often used for typical ponchos.
