Chordeleg & Gualaceo Day Trip
After pickup from your hotel in Cuenca, you will travel through the surrounding mountains. Your first stop is San Bartolomé, renowned for its handcrafted guitars. You will visit a traditional workshop to learn about guitar-making from local luthiers.
Next, you will visit Chordeleg, famous for its ceramics and exquisite silver and gold filigree jewellery. You will observe local craftspeople at their workshop and learn about this delicate technique.
In Chordeleg, you will stroll around the Plaza Central and explore various artisan stores before proceeding to Gualaceo, known for its impressive textiles.
In Gualaceo, you will immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of two traditional markets, where you will find handwoven fabrics showcasing bright colors and intricate designs. You will visit a textiles workshop to see different looms in use and learn about the pre-Hispanic Ikat weaving technique used for regional ponchos.
After 4 hours of exploring Azuay artisan traditions, you will return to Cuenca and be dropped off at your original pickup location.
