Chordeleg & Gualaceo Day Trip
After being picked up from your hotel in Cuenca, the tour begins by traversing the mountains surrounding the city. The first stop will be San Bartolomé, known for its artisanal handcrafted guitars. Visit a workshop to learn about the luthiers and their techniques in creating these instruments.
Next, the tour proceeds to Chordeleg, recognized for its ceramics and exquisite filigree jewellery made of silver and gold. Witness the intricate process of making these detailed pieces in local workshops.
You will explore the centre of Chordeleg, including the Plaza Central, with various artisan shops around it, before heading to Gualaceo, famed for its incredible textiles.
In Gualaceo, experience the lively environment of two traditional markets. Observe the bright colours and designs of handwoven fabrics, and visit a textiles workshop to see the looms used by artisans. Learn about the pre-Hispanic Ikat technique, often used in local ponchos.
After approximately 4 hours of exploring Azuay artisans' traditions, the return journey to Cuenca will commence, concluding with a drop-off at the original pickup location.
