On this excursion from Malalcahuello, we'll hike to Laguna Espejo located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada glacier, experiencing the landscapes of La Araucanía.

Laguna Espejo Hiking Excursion

We'll start this hiking route from Malalcahuello at 7:30 am at Kilometer 0 of the Lonquimay Volcano Crossing. The hike extends 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) in total, with medium difficulty, traversing mountain areas at altitudes from 1,720 to 2,554 meters (5,643 to 8,379 feet). Several stops will be made to enjoy the landscapes.

Initially, we'll cross a wooded area featuring native botanical species such as araucarias and ñirres. After this, the route leads to the eastern face of the Sierra Nevada glacier, where Laguna Espejo, or 'Mirror Lake,' is located.

At the lagoon, we'll see the reflection of the mountains while having an energy bar, candy, and an isotonic drink. We will also view the waterfalls that feed into the lagoon, notably the Salto Punta Negra waterfall.

After enjoying the scenery, we will return to the meeting point, arriving at 4:30 pm.
