A trip to Goree Island is an essential experience for visitors to Dakar, allowing exploration of its historical significance as a center for the Atlantic slave trade.
Goree Island Private Trip
Collection from your hotel occurs at around 9 am, followed by a transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle to the port of Dakar. A ferry will take you to Goree Island.
The journey lasts approximately 20 minutes, arriving at the island off the coast of Senegal's Cape Verde Peninsula. Goree was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 due to its significant role in Africa's slave trade for three centuries.
The trip includes a visit to the House of Slaves, a museum dedicated to the millions who were held captive and sold there, with slavery practices ceasing in 1848 when France abolished it.
After the museum, participants will walk through the narrow streets, observing colonial houses adorned with Bougainvillea flowers, a nearby beach, and the local lifestyle. Upon completion of the trip, the group will return to the ferry for the journey back to Dakar, where transportation will be provided back to your hotel.
