Lac Rose Private Trip

Can you imagine a beautiful lake of pink water? Well, it actually exists and you can discover it for yourself when you take a trip to Lac Rose, famous for having been the last stage of the Dakar Rally up until 2008.

Private Trip Details

After collecting you from your hotel at 9 am, we will head on the bus to the north of Dakar. After traveling for around an hour, we will hit the same route as used in the Paris-Dakar Rally.

We will arrive at Lac Rose and disembark from the bus to climb into a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle for an exploration. This saltwater body is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow strip of sand dunes.

During our ATV tour, we will observe local inhabitants using ancient techniques to extract salt from the lake. You will learn about the dependence of people from West Africa on this salt-panning activity and discover why the water has a pinkish tone, with a salt content 10 times higher than that of the sea.

After the 4x4 tour, we will take a fun dip in the Pink Lake. You will experience floating on the surface of the saltwater effortlessly.

Lac Rose

Due to heavy rains in summer 2024, the lake has retained much water and lost its pink color. Salt extraction activities have resumed, along with tours, but the color has not returned yet, and the timeline for its return is uncertain.
