Why visit the Museum of Free Derry?
During your visit to the Free Derry Museum, you will explore the history of the city during the period 1968 to 1972, including the time popularly known as "Free Derry", civil rights, the Battle of the Bogside, and Bloody Sunday, when the British Army committed mass murder in the streets of the Bogside. Following this event, the families of the victims led the community in writing a new chapter in civil rights, inspiring many internationally.
The Museum is located in the heart of these historic events. You will walk through the different rooms of the museum and explore the city's significant moments from the perspective of the Free Derry community, as well as learn about its future in Northern Ireland.
Opening times
You can come at any time on the day of your booking during the museum's opening hours. The Free Derry Museum is open at the following times:
October to April: daily from 10 am to 4 pmMay to September: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 6 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm
The last admission to the museum will always be one hour before closing time.
