Following a fulfilling breakfast at your accommodation, our exploration of this fascinating city begins. Our first stop is the National Museum of Archaeology, where we'll delve into the depths of human history.
Next, we will move on to Al-Azem Palace, offering insights into the traditions of the local populace. Our itinerary will also include a visit to the Mausoleum of Saladin and the Great Umayyad Mosque, a stunning example of Islamic architecture.
As we stroll along the historic Straight Street, we'll also see the Chapel of Saint Ananias and Saint Paul's Window, subsequently enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the local souks before concluding our day at the hotel.
Day 3: Damascus - Palmyra - Homs - Al-Mishtaya
After breakfast, we set off towards Palmyra, often dubbed the capital of the desert. Its ancient ruins boast magnificent structures including the Temple of Bel, triumphal arch, the great colonnade, the agora, and the theatre, along with various tombs.
Post-exploration, we'll head towards Homs to tour the historic old city. Afterward, we will proceed to Meshtaieh, a quaint village near Krak des Chevaliers, where we will spend the night.
Day 4: Krak des Chevaliers - Homs - Apamea - Serjilla - Aleppo
With breakfast completed, we begin our day by visiting Krak des Chevaliers, a castle recognized as a World Heritage Site and celebrated for its exceptional preservation from medieval times. A guided tour through its various compartments will elucidate the fortress’s strategic significance during the Crusades.
Our journey continues to Homs to witness its renowned wooden waterwheels, still in operation for irrigation purposes. Next, we will explore Apamea, an ancient city where the impressive remains of the Temple of Zeus Belos and its grand colonnade can be admired.
We will then travel to Serjilla, a remarkably preserved Byzantine "dead city" that thrived between the 5th and 7th centuries AD, concluding our day in Aleppo, where we will lodge for the night.
Day 5: Aleppo - Simeon Stylites - Aleppo
Starting with breakfast, the day is dedicated to Aleppo, one of the ancient centers of civilization and an essential trade nexus between the Mediterranean and Euphrates. We will explore the Citadel, regarded as one of the largest and oldest fortifications globally.
Our itinerary includes an exterior tour of the Great Mosque, a significant representation of Umayyad architecture, alongside a visit to the renovated section of Aleppo's old covered souk.
In the afternoon, we’ll venture to the Church of Saint Simeon Stylites (Qal'at Sim'an), a stunning 5th-century Christian structure. We will then return to Aleppo for our overnight stay.
Day 6: Aleppo - Maaloula - Damascus
On the sixth day, after breakfast, we will travel toward Maaloula, a picturesque village known for its rock-carved homes and the unique fact that its residents still converse in Aramaic, the ancient tongue of Christ.
Following the visit, we will continue our journey back to Damascus. Upon arrival, you will have some leisure time before returning to the hotel for rest.
