Embark on a fascinating journey from Douala as we navigate through the Pongo-Songo nature reserve by boat, dedicating an entire day to experience the remarkable chimpanzees that inhabit the banks of the Sanaga River.

Chimpanzee Exploration in Cameroon

Your adventure commences at 8 am with a pickup at your hotel in Douala. We will head westward, making our way to Marienberg. Here, we will board a boat bound for Pongo Island, home to the famed Pongo-Songo Reserve. Prepare to meet the charming local residents: the chimpanzees!

As we glide along the Sanaga River, the boat will bring us closer to this pristine reserve situated in the western region of Cameroon. The Papaye France association plays a vital role in safeguarding the region’s chimpanzees. During our visit, we will gain insights into the conservation efforts led by this organization at Pongo-Songo, where chimpanzees face considerable threats to their survival.

Our exploration will also include a trip to the reserve’s infirmary, offering an opportunity to witness firsthand the care provided to the chimpanzees, including a chance to see adorable baby chimpanzees! After immersing ourselves in the wonders of this species at Pongo-Songo, we’ll enjoy a refreshing picnic lunch to recharge.

Post-lunch, we will return to the boat for our journey back to the departure point. Our enriching day at the Pongo-Songo Reserve will conclude at approximately 5 pm when we return to your hotel.
