Tour Details
Écija once had 14 churches and 18 convents. We will meet at the Plaza de Santiago to begin this tour focusing on the religious architecture of the town.
The first stop is the Church of Santiago, known for its Gothic-Mudéjar style. After observing its facade, we will explore its altarpiece, significant in the Archdiocese of Seville after the Cathedral.
Next, we will visit Plaza de España, where remnants of an episcopal building were uncovered, and see the Church of Santa Barbara, built on a Roman temple.
We will then head to the Church of Santa Maria, noted for its bell tower, reminiscent of Seville's Giralda. Here, we will discuss its history and examine archaeological pieces located in its courtyard.
We will continue to the Church of Los Descalzos, a Baroque gem. Its simple exterior contrasts with its impressive interior.
Lastly, we will pass by the Convent of Las Marroquíes, then visit the Santa Cruz Parish Church, and the exteriors of the Church of San Pablo and Church of Santo Domingo before returning to our starting point.
After 2.5 hours, we will conclude our guided tour of Écija's churches.
